Banking Services Tailored to Your Needs
Not all checking accounts and savings accounts are the same, and our team can help you choose which of our account types will best serve your financial needs. When you first talk with us about opening an account, your banker will ask you some questions about your financial status and goals. From there, we’ll walk you through the available accounts and help you make your decision.
Before You Change Banks
There are some things you should know before you start the process of changing banks:
When you bank with Bank of Dudley, you’re not just getting a place to keep your money; you’re getting the combined experience of a team of dedicated bankers and financial experts who can help you choose the banking products and services you need. Before your first call, take a few minutes to sit down and think through where you want to be financially in five years, ten years, and the long run.
When you have defined your financial goals, our team will be better able to help you find the path to meeting them with Bank of Dudley.
Once you’ve chosen to bank with Bank of Dudley, you may be tempted to withdraw all of your money from your old bank now and redeposit it into your new accounts. The only problem is that once your new Bank of Dudley accounts are open, it’s going to be a few days before you receive your debit card and checks, so you may lose access to your money for a short time.
Instead, start your account with a limited opening deposit and continue using your old account until you know that all of your automated transactions have been pulled over and you have all the tools you need to use your account effectively.
You’ll need to transition all of these recurring transactions—bill payments, recurring subscriptions, and automatic deposits such as payroll and benefit payments—to your new account. Before you close your old account(s), review your recent bank statements and identify all of the recurring transactions you’ll need to transfer.
After Your New Account Is Open
Once we’ve opened your new account(s), you can start finalizing your move to Bank of Dudley:
As soon as your new account is open, you can start migrating your automatic payments, payroll deposits, recurring subscriptions, and other automations to your new account. Make sure to deposit enough cash into your new account to cover any payments you migrate to the account.
Leave your old account open for a month or two to make sure that all of your automated transactions have been successfully migrated to the new account. If you close your old account too early and a business tries and fails to collect an automated bill payment, you may be charged late fees or other penalties.
Once you’ve verified that all of your automated transactions have been migrated successfully, you can close your old account.
Contact your previous bank to find out what’s required to close your account and follow their instructions. You should receive a final statement along with a document formally closing the account. You should retain this proof of account closure for at least three years for legal and tax purposes.
Your Bank of Dudley banking experience is not complete until you download the Bank of Dudley app. In the app, you can take complete control of your money right from your smartphone or tablet. Banking app users enjoy:
- Easy transfers between Bank of Dudley accounts
- Automatic bill pay for any recurring payments you make
- Depositing checks directly from the app; no need to visit a branch
- Easy access to other banking services 24/7
